ดร. ก้องภพ อยู่เย็น ได้รับปริญญาดุษฎีบัณฑิตด้านวิศวกรรมไฟฟ้าจาก Georgia Institute of Technology USA ในปี 2007 ดัวยความสนใจเรื่องสภาวะอากาศและอวกาศ ดร ก้องภพได้ทำงานวิจัยอิสระด้านแควนตัมฟิสิกส์และทฤษฎีไฟฟ้าเพื่ออธิบายการเกิดขึ้นของระบบสุริยะ สิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นในระบบสุริยะ  และการปฎิสัมพันธ์กันของดวงดาวในระบบสุริยะ ซึ่งส่งผลต่อการเปลี่ยนแปลงของสภาพอากาศและภัยธรรมชาติ ดร.ก้องภพ บรรยายให้ความรู้ต่อสาธารณชนในเรื่องดังกล่าวและพัฒนาเครื่องมือเพื่อให้สามารถคาดการณ์การเกิดภัยธรรมชาติบนบนโลกได้

ในระหว่างการทำงานเป็นวิศวกรขององค์การบริหารการบินและอวกาศแห่งชาติ สหรัฐอเมริกา หรือ นาซา ดร.ก้องภพได้เขียนและร่วมงานเอกสารวิชาการมากกว่า 42 ฉบับ พร้อมทั้งได้รับสิทธิบัตรอีก 6 สิทธิบัตร (และอยู่ระหว่างดำเนินการอีก 3 สิทธิบัตร)  ดร. ก้องภพได้รับรางวัล NASA Robert H. Goddard Engineering Award ในปี 2014 และรางวัล Science & Technology Advancement Award จาก NASA Goddard’s Applied Engineering and Technology Directorate ในปี 2011 และ 2017
